MICHIGAN STING HOCKEY LEAGUE

CONDUCT & SAFETY

POLICY AND GUIDELINES

                                                                    (2006)

POLICY

The Michigan Sting Hockey League provides a positive venue for competitive ice hockey while focusing on healthy lifestyle, safety, fun, and friendship. Our league philosophy is based on the concept of ‘stepping back’ where aggressive behavior is not tolerated and on-ice situations are not escalated.

 GUIDELINES

All players are to abide by the player conduct and safety rules set forth by the Michigan Sting Hockey League. These guidelines include:

1.       I will abide by the rules of hockey and play within the spirit of the rules.

2.       I will not check any other player and will avoid aggressive acts.

3.       I will keep my emotions under control at all times.

4.       I understand that I am legally liable for injuries to others due to ‘reckless disregard’ for the safety of others.

5.       I understand that the referee’s decisions are final and cannot be disputed.

6.       I understand that all game misconduct penalties will be reviewed by the Conduct and Safety Board and additional game/league suspensions are possible.

 LEAGUE RULES

The following rules apply to league games:

 1.       USA Hockey rules govern league play.

2.       Games will consist of  two (2)  – 17 minute stop-time periods.

3.       Delayed off-sides.

4.       Fighting will not be tolerated.

5.       Penalties will be assessed as follows: Minor – 2 minutes; Major – 5 minutes; Misconduct – 10 minutes. Any player receiving a total of three penalties in one game will be ejected from that game.

6.       Checking is not permitted. Any players who intentionally pushes, shoves, checks or fails to avoid body contact with an opponent will be assessed a 2 minute minor penalty.

7.       No red line (for passing and icing).

8.       Knee high slap shots are allowed. At no time will the stick be permitted above the knee. The penalty will be a face-off in the violating team’s end.

9.       Fighting is an automatic major penalty, a game misconduct and a suspension to be determined by the Conduct & Safety Board.

10.   All game misconduct penalties will be reviewed by the Conduct & Safety Board and additional game or league suspensions are possible.

11.   Team Captains (on the ice during the incident) may decide on the following: a)Immediate suspension from the current game for misconduct, b)Immediate suspension from the following game for misconduct, and c) Recommend more severe disciplinary action to the Conduct & Safety Board.
